Patrick J. Welsh, founder and president of PJ Welsh & Associates, LLC, has spent his life serving and leading in the criminal justice field. With more than 40 years of experience as a lawyer, police executive, nationally recognized speaker, and trainer, Pat has helped law enforcement agencies and corporate teams build leadership skills that empower them to protect with courage, serve with humility, and lead with compassion.
Pat’s career includes serving as a Major with the Dayton Police Department, where he developed deep experience in criminal investigations, leadership, and public safety. He also teaches as an adjunct instructor at the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville, leading courses on homicide investigations, strategic management, and performance management for law enforcement professionals. As a certified speaker, trainer, and coach with The John Maxwell Team, Pat focuses on leadership development and culture change in both law enforcement and corporate settings.

Beyond his professional work, Pat is devoted to his faith, his family, and his mission to guide others. He has been happily married to his soul mate for more than 44 years, raising five children and enjoying the blessing of two granddaughters.
Pat has also served in global consulting roles, advising organizations on strategic management and leadership. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the FBI National Academy Associates, and is admitted to both state and federal courts in Ohio. Warrior-Servant-Leader: Life behind the badge
Danger. Duty. Distrust. These three words accurately describe the everyday life of a cop: on and off duty. The danger and duty of protecting and serving comes with the job. Over my 26 year career, many people have told me, “I could never be a cop.” They never heard the call to live the law enforcement officer’s life of danger and duty. For others, it is an inherent distrust, and almost hatred, of police officers. But most people don’t realize the distrust they have of cops is a two way street. Warrior, Servant, Leader. Three words citizens do not typically associate with cops. You hear the word cop and picture a guy in uniform, gun and badge and handcuffs, arresting someone or racing down the street with lights and siren screaming “get out of my way!” If you are stopped by a cop, you secretly say to yourself, “Why is he harassing me?” If you need a cop, one is never around. If you are a cop, you spend some days wishing “stupidity” was a crime so you could take everyone you meet to jail. This book will take a look at the Warriors, Servants and Leaders who wear the uniform of Law Enforcement. Life behind the badge is a life most cops guard and treasure.
